GV-26 – the emergency point you carry with you
There are things our bodies don’t learn at school. One of them is that we carry an emergency point with us – literally on our face.
GV-26, also known as Ren Zhong, is the point in the hollow between the nose and the upper lip. In traditional Chinese medicine, it belongs to the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) meridian and has been used for thousands of years in emergencies: for loss of consciousness, breathing difficulties, sudden drops in energy, states of shock or tetany attacks.
How does it work?
The GV-26 point does not ‘add’ anything from the outside. Stimulating it activates what is already within us: the nervous system, the natural flow of energy, and the survival response deeply embedded in the body.
This is one of the reasons why a holistic approach to health fascinates me so much: the body has its own wisdom. Often, it just needs a nudge to reconnect with it.
How to stimulate the GV-26 point?
Place your thumb or index finger in the hollow just above your upper lip. Press firmly for about 3 minutes. You may feel warmth, a tingling sensation or a slight pulse – this is a good sign that the point is responding.
Working with points during massage
In my practice, I regularly work with acupressure points, both during Ayurvedic massage and specialist therapies.
The body’s response can be surprising, even after many years of practice.
I invite you to come and experience this for yourself. I tailor each treatment individually, taking into account your needs and the condition of your body at that moment.
